Phase Three : Presentation And Feedback

The phase Three presentation marked the beginning to picking a single final game concept. The presentation was used to communicate and display each of the ideas we had come up with including their genre, themes, target market, and a short synopsis for each of the game concepts. We presented to our classmates, letting us gather feedback. But the presentation was also shared with some friends externally that we know are interested in gaming. Choosing to also share the presentation with people outside of a games course allows us to better understand the viewpoint of someone who may be into gaming, but isn’t overly aware of how making games may work.

Once we had finished showcasing our ideas, we created another google form for feedback. This form asked to rate each game concept and identify which game was their favourite and to identify why. Building on the pervious feedback from Adam, we recognised that user feedback is a big part within games development. As a result, surveys like this are crucial to refining our game concept, even at such an early stage of development.

Incel culture got a much higher score then I had initially anticipated. Whilst I did like this concept I generally thought the themes would be too dark to garner player interest. I am honestly so pleased with this outcome, incel culture was one of the game concepts that stood out to me from the get go.

Whilst the overall score for animal grief is positive a large majority of users rated the game concept a 3. Frankly I wasn’t overly surprised, whilst I did personally have favouritism towards this concept i understood from the beginning it may not be for everyone. The concept relies heavily on user reflection and empathy and whilst that can make for a great game, perhaps it fell slightly short when it came to this concept. Not to say its a bad concept, it is still an intriguing narrative with a unique perspective on animal mental health. Maybe in the future I will come back to this concept and make the gameplay itself more interesting for players, for now it is not a concept that we will be taking forwards.

Catnip crimes was very hit or miss. Because of its humourful nature and silly concept its not difficult to see why some users may vote this concept more harshly. It is definitely not for everyone, in fact the concept as a whole only fits the wants of an admittedly very small demographic. But for this small demographic the game concept is clearly something that they are interested in seeing come to fruition with 4 five star votes out of ten. Still even though the game was rated highly by a select few the concept itself didn’t gather enough interest for us the validate finalising it.
