Week 1

During the first week we got introduced to the module and also discussed our future steps. This is the diagram that our teacher shared with us:

The Research Phase has barely any connection to actually figuring out a concept for a game, it is more about finding what interests you the most and exploring different ideas before actually diving into something specific. For this to work out, we had a workshop in pairs where we needed to answer a few simple questions:

After we pinned the sheets we could look at what other people wrote on theirs. We were supposed to pick a couple of themes and break them down further, using questions what?/why?/where?/when?/how?. That would help us expand the area if research for future themes and also make us think broader.

My partner and I picked dinosaurs and daydreaming as the topics we would like to expand on. The task was really helpful, it made us think of many different perspectives which could be applied to the themes. The questions didn’t end on “where did dinosaurs live/why does daydreaming happen?”, we thought about what the social interactions looked like between dinosaurs and how can daydreaming be connected to delusions.

This week, I also made a list of different ideas based in what I saw on other people’s pin-ups and what I picked from our own.

On the right there are four themes that I will research more next week for the upcoming presentation. I decided to stick to the method that we were introduced to this week to ask myself questions on the topic and base my research around them. I find it easier to navigate through information this way because I can separate it clearly.
