Week 1

29.09.2025 – Introduction to Year 3

Our first week of final year began with an overview of what is going to be happening until the end of the course and the timeframes of each project. One of the most important topics of the lecture was finding employment in the industry and Adam provided us with useful links on how to prepare a solid portfolio.

This year is going to be heavily focused on independent work and presenting our progress to peers.

To help us start with the project, we were given a task to think about things that make us feel certain types of emotions. The point of this exercise was to think more broadly about our games. Instead of strictly thinking of an idea for the game we were supposed to dig into our real-life experiences so that the project we create would have a greater impact on the player.

The results of brainstorming with Izzy and Jessie:

Our next task was to decide in groups on a topic which we would further branch out on in terms of what interests us. In the group with Izzy and Jessie we chose anxiety.

We wrote down all associations which came to our minds related to anxiety. From those, we picked the ones that we wanted to think about in more depth and wrote down even more terms related to that particular element.

I found this exercise to be helpful in terms of what methodology I should use when researching ideas on my own.

We were advised to create a research plan for this project which could consist of many different methods such as moodboards, videos or “nothing method” while brainstorming.

An interesting topic which I thought of expanding upon later on was the relation of language on human perception, or if it has any connection at all.

Mind map I made in class about topics that interest me. It is a starting point for my further research.

Week 1 Goals

  • Think about main 4 themes
  • Explore the theme of language
  • Research themes with some of the suggested methods (for example Nothing method, Lotus method)
