This week is reading week, which gives me the opportunity to re-examine the work I have done. This week, my supervisor Vanissa Wanick and I had a Formative Feedback on the work I am currently doing. The following are my answers to some Critical Reflective Questions.
1.What is working well so far?
Core game concept and theme clarity:
Now I have a clearer understanding of the narrative theme and emotional tone I want to convey, as well as a clear goal for what kind of game I want to make. My thoughts have evolved into a greater focus on player experience, atmosphere and environmental stories, which is more in line with my major in narrative design.
The visual direction that begins to form:
The initial mood board and sketches convey the color and lighting aesthetics of my game world. Although it is not yet complete, this visual language is beginning to show consistency.
2.Where are the gaps in your documentation?
After having a conversation with my supervisor, I learned that there are still many deficiencies in my document. The specific items are as follows:
- Using ai to create images without indicating specific information, or avoiding the use of ai
- The connection between the lecture content and the project work is insufficient.
- The explanation of the game’s development ideas is insufficient
- Deficiencies in game selection and theory
- More visual development files
3.How does your document communicate your vision?
The mood boards I made and the early sketches began to express the colorful and emotionally rich world I wanted to build
Through the conception in the past few weeks, my narrative direction and theme have become increasingly clear. However, I am somewhat lacking in description, making it difficult for the audience to grasp my ideas.
Improvements are needed to better convey visuals
The document will convey my vision more clearly, as long as I: add visual effects of annotations to explain emotions, lighting and narrative intentions, expand the player journey, show how players experience the story, link my decisions to the theoretical framework, and present a clearer development progress, not just isolated ideas
Including peer feedback to support why certain design choices were made
At present, the vision exists, but it requires more visual support, theoretical and iterative evidence so that others can understand the direction and purpose of the project without my further explanation.
So this is also the part that I am improving.
