Week 6 – Game Poems/Unique Impact Games/Short Games

03/11/25

Preparation before the week 6 lesson

Before Jordan’s lesson on Monday, he suggested we check out his itch page dedicated to game poems. I played through the following: I wish I were the moon, Saturn Devours Her Son & It goes on. Even though they were short games, they all were impactful and I enjoyed reading others’ comments on how they interrupted the game, especially It goes on as it was different to my own experience and thoughts, but that’s because game poems are fully down to the individual for what they experience.

In our Monday lesson, we had Jordan give an interesting speech about Game Poems and why to potentially consider them when coming up with ideas of our own. He also showed us some of his short games that were impactful but short and sweet. In the afternoon, we had a similar thing where Adam showed us three of his games and got some of the class to play them and then said what we thought these games might be about. And then after we got into small groups, plus Adam and Jordan, to discuss 1 of our ideas and get some feedback. My group wasn’t in, but I was able to present one of our ideas, which led to an interesting conversation about metaphors. As I had mentioned, I liked one of Jessie’s ideas of the metaphor from serial killers being ‘the media kills’. It was then that Adam and Jordan gave some useful insights into how I could think of unique ways to create some ideas surrounding metaphors. One idea that stuck with me was from Jessie’s metaphor came from the idea of intrusion as Adam gave a brief story of how one tweet that was made ended up causing massive issues for him and Jordan gave a little quote, “we’re all kinda of our own celebrities’ in some sense” which from here sparked an idea for one of our potential games.

Here is the mind map created from that discussion & any further progress made within the idea process https://sites.wsagames.com/is3g23/researching-the-market-creating-game-ideas
