Here we are the final year! Starting on the Monday we went over the brief and the plan for this semester and what this final year will look like as a whole.

Notes from session: During our Monday session we went over what this final year was going to look like and then broke it up into smaller chunks, which I massively appreciate as I have a tendency to get overwhelmed when given a lot of information all at once so seeing it as weekly chunks made it easier to process what will be needed from me at those given times.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Jordan who will be accompanying Adam when we have our sessions. Once Adam had gone over the expectations for this year he suggested making weekly goals to help guide ourselves through the next 12 weeks. Luckily I started doing this last year as it was something I found really helpful so I’ll definitely be doing that this year as well.

My main goal for this week is to narrow down to four topics that I’m interested in and then from there start researching those topics in depth.

Workshop activities: In the second half of the session, Adam started a workshop where he gave us 5 different prompts which in teams we then had to annotate. This workshop was very handy in getting back into the swing of things and also allowed for us to not think too deeply of what the outcome might be.

After having an hour for the first activity we then moved forward by choosing only one of the topics from what we had written down. Jessie, Maja and myself decided to hone in on the topic of ‘Anxiety’.

Before we fully started this section of the activity Adam introduced us to this method called ‘The Lotus Blossom Creative Technique’, Where you start off with a central idea or theme in this instant ours was ‘Anxiety’, and then expand outwards with related themes. This technique is to help encourages us to have a fully fleshed out idea space before considering it completed.

Beginning my own work: After the lesson on Monday I decided to do an initial mind map of my own interests, which from there I chose four which I enjoyed the most and went onto using the ‘The Lotus Blossom Creative Technique’. Below you can see I chose True crime, Psychological horror, Mental health and Baking.

Mood board of my interests.

Final choices:

After some deliberation I’ve decided to do my presentation on these four topics as they really speak to me and I know I’m going to enjoy researching in depth.

Over the next two weeks I’ll be creating a presentation to show case my interests and hopefully get some of my peers interested as well!
