To close out our semester of guest speakers, we had the pleasure of hearing from Jade, a game producer at Snap Finger Click. Her talk was short but incredibly informative, which gave us extra time for questions and some valuable one-to-one conversations afterwards.

Jade began by sharing how she arrived at her current role. She graduated in 2018 and soon secured her first QA position at FuturLab. In 2019, she moved to Studio Gobo, continuing as a QA tester. It was there that two producers noticed her potential and invited her to join their team as an associate producer. She remained in that role for over three years, eventually earning a promotion to full-time producer. Most recently, she transitioned to her current position at Snap Finger Click.

Listening to her speak made me reflect on my own career path once again. I still feel uncertain about where I fit in the games industry. As I mentioned in my previous blog, Megan’s talk on level design sparked some interest in that direction. But when Jade began explaining what it actually means to be a producer, I felt that same spark again. Many of the qualities she described, being a timekeeper, task planner, communicator, a line of defence, and a source of truth, are traits I recognise in myself. Strong time management, organisation, and being someone people feel comfortable talking to are areas where I naturally excel. Because of that, producing now feels like another potential path worth exploring, and something I want to research more deeply.

To finish off the day, I was lucky enough to have a one-to-one conversation with Jade, where I was able to share Jessie’s and I’s game idea. She offered insightful feedback, and it felt rewarding to have a professional understand the concept without needing much explanation. For me, that was a reassuring sign that I’m communicating my ideas effectively.
