Here, I’ll be starting my journey of looking at already existing games on the market, so that I can get an idea of the type of games that are already out there, as I want the game I’m creating to be unique and not another stereotypical serial killer game and then this is where I will start brainstorming ideas with Jessie, first solo and then coming together to create and share what we both thought of.

Researching Existing Games On The Market
Here, I conducted some desk-based research looking at games already on the market related to my theme, to get a wider view of what has worked for others and areas in which those games could improve.

Coming Up With Game Ideas
This section is dedicated to ideas that myself. Jessie & Maja began to think in terms of our topics combined. (These are very rough ideas & we will be planning on meeting up to discuss ideas further), I’ll also be filling them in on the conversation that I had with Adam, Jordan and the small group I was with.

Discussion With Small Group
In our week 6 Monday lesson, I shared my group’s idea with a small group of two others, plus Adam & Jordan, who, in summary, suggested we could look at metaphors for paparazzi / serial killers, which I really liked the idea of so I was able to relay the conversation with the others and on Tuesday we are going to look deeper into metaphors for our game ideas and hopefully hone it down to 3 which we can then start creating prototypes as well as all the info we need to present in week 9.

My mind map on metaphor game ideas for the chosen topics

Following on from the conversation on Monday I went away and created a metaphor mind map just to help come up with new ideas.

Group Meeting
On Tuesday, Jessie. Maja & I had a group meeting to come up with a plan for the next 2 and a bit weeks before week 9, where we will be presenting our 3 game ideas.

Our schedule to stay on task looked like this. This week, we wanted to narrow down our ideas as we had 24! To be around 5/6 and then create a Google Form to receive feedback from our peers & teachers.
Making Decisions
Shown below is our mind maps that we went through and just said yes or no to just to get us down to fewer ideas, we did this twice and resulted in 9 ideas from 24.

Google Form
From our top 5 choices, we created brief descriptions for each option and sent them to our peers and teachers, asking them to select 3 ideas and explain why they chose each one. Below is all the data from the form.
From the feedback below, you can see that the ideas that our peers and teachers were most interested in were Out of focus, Broken lens, & Anonymous provider! We also received some really helpful reasons as to why people selected those options. Due to these results, as a team, we will be able to move forward to our next stages.

Out of Focus – In-depth Research
The game idea that I have been tasked with fleshing out is Out of Focus. Here is a link that will take you to that page: https://sites.wsagames.com/is3g23/out-of-focus-in-depth-research/
