Sprint 3

9/03/2026 – Easter Break – 26/04/2026

Week 7 – Week 9

Believe it or not, the third sprint is here, and it’s full of events! So, of course, here was what happened within this sprint.

Events & Trips

Week 7 was packed with lots of fun, exciting stuff going on, as on Wednesday, we had the pleasure of visiting Us Two studio up in London, where we were able to learn about the industry and towards the end, I was able to talk to one of the QA associates who gave some really insightful information when it comes to applying for jobs.

On the Saturday, we also had the opportunity to present our game at the Science and Engineering fair in Southampton, although the age demographic wasn’t exactly what myself and Jessie were expecting the play testers we did have gave some insightful feedback and it was also nice to just observe players to see what they did and how they interacted to see what we could do to make our game more engaging and easy to understand the storyline.

Some of the feedback we received was the following:

  • When you chose a headline it disappeared quite quickly
  • Same with the email for the second case
  • There was a section that said it was meant to be handwritten but it was typed instead
  • Maybe do more with the journal
  • Play more into the eeriness/creepiness

The feedback was really helpful, as some of the stuff Jessie and I were aware of, but other comments allowed Jessie and me to start brainstorming how we could make new editions to the game and also improve on already implemented features.

Additional feedback received from Adam & Jordan

On the Monday after the event in Southampton, I was able to have a chat with Adam & Jordan on how the game was going and talk about the feedback that we got from the event. Below is some of the stuff we discussed plus what they would recommend our next steps be.

  • Upload it to Itch even in its current form (allows us to reach more people to playtest)
  • Try and get some audio in asap, even if it’s just a placeholder for now
  • Voice acting – common in narrative games now/ maybe go to the Winchester university to see if any students would be interested
  • Send a video over to Adam of our gameplay for the John Hansard event & WIGS online event

3D Modelling

Finally, the 3D grey boxing has been completed this sprint. I have been able to create the final two locations. The abandoned warehouse and the old police office. I also made a start by just adding colour to the 3D models to add a bit more detail, as I was still a bit nervous to try and start texturing. And of course couldn’t forget to mention that I finally modelled the phone as well!

New Character Unlocked

As the narrative has progressed, we have unlocked a new character, so it only felt right that they also had their own headshot. Introducing… the coworker!

Sourcing Audio / Voice Acting

When Adam and Jordan gave feedback to us in week 8, the core bit was focused on adding audio ASAP, as at the moment the game was silent, and we agreed that the game would feel more engaging if players were able to experience some type of audio feedback. So that week I went away and started compiling a list of royalty-free audio for us to use. I used the website Pixabay which gave us access to loads of sound effects which will instantly improve players experience, so once I had found all the effects we needed I sent them over to Jessie so that she could start implement them.

Moving on to the part I’m most excited about: the voice acting! So when talking to Adam and Jordan, they brought it up that nowadays most narrative-based games have voice acting, and we agreed that, again, it would elevate the game to a higher quality. So when I went back for the Easter holiday, I reached out to one of my friends who did acting and asked whether he and some friends would be interested in doing some voice acting for the game. Luckily, he was up for it and even got two of his friends involved! So I’m super excited for our next game update to include not only sound effects but also some voice acting!

Final Playtest

On Wednesday, the 22nd of April, we had our final playtest event before we hand in! We were able to get some useful insight into what players were still struggling with when playing, and were able to make a list of things that could be tweaked and altered. From that list, Jessie and I wrote down our own personal tasks for the next 3 weeks so that we will be ready to hand in by the 21st of May.

My list involved:

  • Send over the credits for the ending
  • Create a player advisory for the start of the game
  • Make sure the website is up to date
  • Post our final two sprints to LinkedIn
  • Record documentary
  • Create trailer
  • Some bonuses – create business cards for the degree show / make stickers

Reflection

Here was what I said I wanted to achieve during weeks 7-9

So, how has this sprint gone? Well, it’s been quite packed full of stuff going on with trips and events, and having to balance handing in for our other module, but now that those have all passed, it’s been a steady flow of doing work. This sprint, I was able to finish off all the greybox modelling, and I’ve also now added colour to give extra detail. I created a new character, sourced audio for the game, and reached out to a friend for the voice acting. I was also able to finish up all the evidence, so now cases 3 & 4 have all their evidence done. So, in comparison to my prediction for myself for this sprint, again I’ve stayed on track and also managed to squeeze in extra bits here and there. So overall, I’m happy with how everything is looking within the project, and I can’t wait to see the outcome. (Starting to feel very real)
