I was struggling with creating the game’s presentation poster. I needed to convey that the game takes place in a non-realistic space through the protagonist’s consciousness, and I also needed to use color to grab the viewer’s attention. So I found this artist who is very good at vaporwave style. His bold use of color and his technique of combining computer windows with the visuals perfectly matched what I wanted.

Salvador Dalí

In Dali’s most famous painting, ‘The Persistence of Memory’, supple clocks hang from tree branches, flowing across the table. I believe this is not merely a spectacle, but also a questioning of the stability of time and matter.
I sense that his clocks suggest time is non-linear and stretchable. In my game, maybe players can adjust the behavior of interactive props to visually alter the flow of time in a local environment—for example, a pool of water in front of them will evaporate faster, exposing the bottom; adjusting the angle will cause the water to flow backward and fill the pool again.
Giorgio de Chirico
He was also a surrealist painter, and his oil paintings are characterized by bright colors and clear lines. What was helpful to me was the sketch at the Memory Garden level. He was very skilled at centered composition, using the massive buildings on either side as visual guides to ultimately draw the viewer’s eye to the center. Therefore, I also referenced the glass conservatory concept, which enhanced the sense of the main subject in the image.
Abbott Fuller Graves
Abbott Fuller Graves (1859–1936) was an American painter and illustrator who specialized in decorative open air garden paintings and floral still-lifes. His use of thick brushstrokes, bright colors, and natural light shows the influence of European impressionism.
His control over light and shadow and brushstrokes is amazing. Referring to his paintings made it very easy for me to establish the general atmosphere and colors for this sketch.
