Working Title: Shadows Between Time
Genre: 2D Stealth / Action
Platform: PC & Console
Target Audience: 16+
Shadows Between Time is a 2D stealth game that delivers a high-intensity, adrenaline-fueled experience through a nostalgic yet contemporary design. The project explores how classic stealth sensibilities can be reinterpreted through fluid movement, responsive controls, and tension-focused pacing, rather than relying on combat, power fantasy, or player domination.
Set within a distorted interpretation of 1900s Britain, the game presents industrial environments such as factories, rooftops, alleyways, and underground tunnels as abstracted spaces that feel simultaneously familiar and unsettling. Historical references are deliberately warped through exaggerated scale, stark contrast, and subtle anachronisms, creating a clash of time spheres that reinforces themes of surveillance, repetition, and urgency.
The experience prioritises flow and moment-to-moment decision-making. Players are encouraged to read space, anticipate enemy behaviour, and commit to movement under pressure. Stealth is framed as an active and reactive process, in which tension arises from near-detection moments and narrow escapes rather than confrontation or methodical waiting.
Rather than positioning the player as a dominant force within the world, Shadows Between Time emphasises vulnerability and adaptability. Combat is intentionally de-emphasised, placing greater importance on timing, positioning, and recovery. The project functions not only as a game concept but also as a design investigation into how nostalgia can be evoked through modern interaction design while maintaining emotional intensity and immediacy.
