Tuesday:
Project Management Changes and Project Status:
This is the final week of the project, so I need to ensure that all the game’s art assets, code and dialogue are completed and work together to form a complete gameplay experience.
All character dialogue and the programme are currently perfectly synchronised, ensuring that players can trigger dialogue correctly.
Last week, working with Lee, I also completed all the 2D animations and programming for the NPCs. When players encounter an NPC, a dialogue can be successfully initiated and the tension level increased.
At present, the game is still missing the art assets for the safe house, self-checkout machines and character huts. I discussed this with Derry last week and asked him to complete the art assets for the self-checkout machines and safe house by this Tuesday, and to finish importing all art assets by this Friday. However, Derry has not completed the art assets within the agreed timeframe. Due to time constraints and delays from team members, I have had to re-plan the project management and have decided to cut the toilet section from the character’s cottage, as this part serves a purely decorative purpose and there are no mechanics requiring the toilet to be completed, so it can be omitted.
I have once again formally informed Derry of my new project management plan. As this is the final week, I have made it clear to him that the work must be completed on time; there is simply no room for further delays. My plan is to complete the import of all the supermarket art assets, along with some of the character hut art assets, by Thursday. I intend to finish all parts of the character huts by next Monday.
My working progress on tuesday:
As I haven’t received any art assets, I’ve decided to focus on implementing the suggestions players made during last week’s test.
- I used Blueprints to convert the passageway in the scene that was blocked by the stairs into a transparent one-way door; players can only exit via this passageway but cannot enter it. This ensures that players stay on the correct path without compromising the scene’s aesthetics.
- I have added a ‘Player Guide’ button to the start page. Players can click this button to see which keys to use for game controls and interacting with items.
- To enhance the horror experience for players, I have added background music and the sound of the player’s footsteps (which stop when the player pauses the game).
Thursday:
Project:
I reviewed which art assets were still missing from the scene, compiled a list, and posted it to the team’s Slack channel, noting the completion deadlines and informing Derry. To ensure the project was completed on time, I told Derry that this time it had to be finished on schedule; there could be no repeat of previous instances where deadlines had been missed.
WordPress:
I discussed with Marie whether the content on my personal WordPress site needed changing and where improvements could be made. Marie felt that my sections were already comprehensive and that there was no need to add any further content; I simply needed to continue updating them as I am doing now. I also need to link the parts of the group’s WordPress site that I’ve created to my personal website.
Week 11 my working progress:
One-Way Door:

Players cannot enter the shopping area via this passageway, but they can leave the shopping area via it. This ensures that the flow of players is not disrupted.
Player Guide:

I have added a ‘Guide’ section to the home page. Players can click on this section to find out which keys to use for interacting with and operating items in the game.
Sound:

I’ve added some rather eerie background music to the game. I’ve also included footsteps for the player; in the game, the footsteps are louder than the background music. This is to create a more immersive sense of horror for the player.
Other work:
This week, I also completed the import and layout of the art assets for the safe house and some of the character huts.
