What is multiplayer games:
Any game that allows more than one person to play counts as multiplayer(Computerhope.com. ,2017).
Multiplayer games fall into many different categories. Multiplayer games are usually played over the Internet, but can also be played over a local area network (LAN) connection. Split-screen multiplayer games are popular on consoles, but usually support only two to four players. Each player’s game is displayed on one side or corner of the same screen.
Multiplayer Games History:
The concept of multiplayer games emerged with the development of computer networks in the 1970s. One of the earliest examples was Maze Warfare, a game that allowed multiple players to navigate mazes and shoot each other. The advent of the Internet in the mid-1990s allowed players to connect online. The early 2000s saw the rise of massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG). The development of mobile gaming and cloud computing further expanded the reach of multiplayer games.
Advantages of Multiplayer Games:
- Multiplayer allows teamwork with players from all regions of the world, and players can also play together with friends.
- The game is more challenging when you compete with real players.
- It’s more immersive to interact with other players in the game in real time.
Disadvantages of Multiplayer Games:
- Different people playing the game together can’t help but disagree, leading to a worse gaming environment.
- Multiplayer games require an internet connection and too many players can cause network delays.
- Multiplayer games that don’t have enough players end up being dead games.
Device:
Multiplayer games can be played on a variety of devices, including PCs, gaming consoles like Xbox, tablets and mobile devices(Lenovo.com. ,2021). The main thing is which device the game supports to play on.
Technical:
Online multiplayer gaming relies on complex technologies, including game servers for hosting games, network protocols to manage data transfer, and matching algorithms to connect you with players of equal level. Game developers also use a variety of programming languages and engines to create immersive multiplayer experiences. They can be created using a game development engine like Unity or Unreal Engine.
Multiplayer Games is divided into two main modes:
- Mode of cooperation:Players co-operate with each other to achieve the same goal.(This is the pattern of my game)
- Competition mode:Compete with other players and aim for the first place.
My Choice:
For my games I choose to use internet and LAN connections for this.
Some examples of multiplayers games:

Party animals
This is one of my favourite multiplayer games. This game involves co-operation and competition, where players in a squad need to co-operate with each other to compete with other teams to win.
gogh
This game allows players to design their own characters and design their own rooms, invite friends to visit their rooms and visit other people’s rooms.

Goose Goose Duck
There are different camps in the game and the same camp needs to co-operate with each other to make their camp win.
Fall Guys
This game is one of my favourite multiplayer games. This game is mainly a competitive mode where the player needs to beat other players in order to get the first place.

R.E.P.O
This is a multiplayer game my friend and I have been playing lately. In the game, players need to work together to avoid monsters and complete objectives.
Stardew Valley
It’s a game I’ve been obsessed with lately, but this game has two modes, a single player mode and a multiplayer mode. The multiplayer mode allows players to invite friends to build farms together.
