“Chants of Sennaar”, 2023

Chants of Sennaar is a puzzle game about language, division, and understanding. Player explore a vast tower where each level is home to a different culture, separated by words. There is no combat. Progress comes from observation, deduction, and learning how others speak.

Its narrative depends on environment and puzzle-solving. The game refuses direct exposition. Instead, meaning emerges through symbols, gestures, murals, architecture, and fragments of written language. Each society occupies a vertical layer, with its own social rules, power structures, and language logic.

Visually, the game draws strongly from Middle Eastern art, Mesopotamian reliefs, and modern graphic design. The art style favors flat colors, sharp silhouettes, and highly controlled composition. Characters are simplified, almost iconic.

Color is used structurally. Each culture has a dominant palette that reflects its ideology and emotional tone. Warm, enclosed spaces suggest ritual and control. Open, pale spaces suggest isolation or authority. There is very little texture. Surfaces feel printed rather than physical, reinforcing the idea that this is a world built from signs and systems.

Architecture carries narrative weight. Walls, stairs, banners, and murals act as silent narrators. The environment teaches you how a culture thinks before you ever understand its words. This echoes the game’s core theme: meaning precedes language, language shapes power.
