Before Lecture:
Before the course began, I learnt a little about Liv Gregory from a link shared by the teacher.
Firstly, I learnt that she is primarily responsible for visual development and concept design.
Although her career path does not align with the direction I have planned for my own future career, I have carefully read through her personal website (https://oliviakgregory.wixsite.com/artwork) and learnt from it how to create my own personal website to showcase to potential employers.
Content that can be added to a personal website:
- Some small projects and practice pieces I’ve made in my spare time
- Complete projects you have created yourself (with detailed explanations).
- If you have any previous work experience, you may include projects you were involved in during your employment (with detailed explanations).

Lecture overview:
My Note during lecture:

As the role I am targeting is not in the field of art, I have selected tips and advice from my notes that will be helpful for my career development and will explain them here.
The learning process in career development:
Liv told us about her career development. She discovered her interest in her future career whilst at university, but lacked the technical skills. So, guided by her own goals, she undertook more systematic study, and eventually she was able to turn her ideas into tangible work.
- Decide on the role you wish to pursue in the future.
- Familiarise yourself with the job requirements for the role you are targeting, so that you can identify what you need to prepare.
- Study the portfolios of artists already working in this field, compare them with your own portfolio, and finally identify your own shortcomings so that you can address them.
How it has helped me:
I am very clear about the role I wish to pursue in the future; I want to work as a game designer. Although this role does not have the same mandatory requirement for a portfolio as art roles do, following Liv’s advice, I will be looking to various media sources to find out more about how graduates who entered the game design field last year applied for roles and what additional preparations they made. Success stories can guide me on the right path.
How to do Character portfolio and Environment portfolio:
How it has helped me:
I feel that the approaches used for character and environment portfolios can also be applied to the creation of my personal project website. Following Liv’s guidance, when building the website, I can showcase the development process behind my game design ideas, demonstrating my thought process and reflections on the project, rather than simply presenting the final game documentation.
